When a drive can't be sanitized. If a drive fails or can't be reliably sanitized, it doesn't get a successful certificate. It moves to an exception path, and we agree on the next step with you, which can include physical destruction through an approved process.

How much does secure data sanitization cost?
Standard Secure Data Sanitization starts at $99 per device for 1 to 4 devices, with lower per-device pricing at 5 to 9 and 10 to 24 devices and project pricing for 25 or more. Audit-Ready Data Sanitization starts at $149 per device because it adds chain of custody and deeper evidence reporting. Final pricing is confirmed once we know the device count, media types and logistics.
Is formatting a drive or reinstalling Windows enough?
Not on its own. Formatting or reinstalling can change what the next user sees without providing documented evidence that the data was sanitized. Miclyn uses a method suited to the media, verifies the result and records what was done.
Can SSDs and NVMe drives be securely sanitized?
Yes, when the device supports an appropriate sanitization capability. Flash storage needs a method suited to how it stores data, so treating an SSD like a traditional hard drive isn't the right assumption. If a drive can't be handled reliably, it goes to our exception path.
What is NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2?
NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2, Guidelines for Media Sanitization, is current U.S. government guidance that NIST published in September 2025. It focuses on running a sanitization program: choosing techniques that fit the media, verifying and validating results, and documenting the work. Miclyn's procedure is designed around this guidance. Miclyn does not describe this service as NIST certified.
Will this make my business HIPAA compliant?
No service does that by itself. Sanitization can support your organization's device and media disposal process, and our documentation can become part of your records. For regulated environments, we confirm the evidence and scope you need before work begins.
Do I receive proof the drive was sanitized?
Yes. Standard service includes a Miclyn Certificate of Data Sanitization. Audit-Ready service adds chain of custody, software-generated evidence and a batch report.
What happens if a drive can't be sanitized successfully?
We don't mark it successful. The device moves to an exception path, and we work with you on the next approved step, which may include physical destruction through an approved process.
Can Miclyn pick up the computers?
Local pickup can be arranged for many projects. Any pickup fee and the logistics depend on location and quantity, and we confirm both before scheduling.
Can sanitization be done onsite?
For the right projects, yes. Onsite work is scoped separately because equipment, access, power, time and documentation needs vary by location.
Can the computers be reused or redeployed afterward?
Yes, where the device is suitable for reuse. Miclyn can scope setup, redeployment or data migration separately from sanitization.
Do you recycle or destroy old computers?
Miclyn can coordinate packaging, asset verification and an approved recycling or physical destruction path. The exact downstream method is confirmed as part of your project.
How long does data sanitization take?
It depends on the media type, device capabilities, drive size, documentation level and any exceptions. We confirm project timing after we inventory the equipment.
