What is Loxone?
Loxone is a whole-home automation platform. At its center is the Loxone Miniserver — a small local controller that runs the automation logic for lighting, climate, shading, audio, access and more. Miclyn designs, installs and programs Loxone systems, and integrates supported equipment from other brands around it.
How is home automation different from a normal smart home?
A typical smart home is a collection of apps and devices you control one at a time. Home automation coordinates those systems so the house responds on its own to things like time of day, sunlight, temperature and whether anyone's home — so you're managing less, not more.
Do I need to use an app?
No. Automation handles the routine on its own, and physical wall controls stay simple and intuitive. The Loxone app is there when you want to see or adjust something — it's an option, not a requirement.
Does it keep working if the internet goes down?
Core automation runs locally on the Miniserver, so everyday routines like lighting, shading and climate keep working without an internet connection. Internet is used for extras such as remote access, notifications and online weather.
Can it work with products from other brands?
Often, yes — where the equipment and its supported interfaces allow. Loxone is the automation foundation, and Miclyn integrates appropriate third-party systems around it. During design we confirm what a specific product supports rather than assuming everything connects.
Can I keep equipment I already have?
Sometimes. If you already own gear that Loxone or Miclyn can integrate through a supported interface, we'll look at keeping it. We'll be straight with you about what fits and what's better replaced.
Can Loxone be added to an existing home?
Yes — confidently. Loxone Air is wireless automation built for existing homes, so we can add a lot without opening finished walls solely to run new control wiring. Where it helps, we add selective wiring or Loxone Tree, and bring in supported equipment you already own. A finished home can become a genuinely automated one — the approach changes, not the outcome.
What's the difference between Loxone Tree and Loxone Air?
Two purpose-built Loxone technologies — and Miclyn uses whichever fits your home, or both. Loxone Tree is wired: a tidy control backbone, well suited to new builds, major remodels and anywhere cabling is accessible. Loxone Air is wireless: built for finished homes, adding automation without opening walls solely to run new control wiring. They're complementary, so many homes use a hybrid of both, coordinated by the same Loxone system.
Is this only for luxury homes?
No. Loxone scales — you can start with the systems that matter most to you and expand over time. It's about coordination and how you live, not a minimum price tag.
Can I expand it later?
Yes. The system is designed to grow. You can add rooms, systems and capabilities over time as your needs change.
What if I want to work with a different Loxone integrator?
You're not locked to us. Loxone is an established platform with a network of professionals, so another qualified Loxone integrator can work on your system. We aim to keep your business through good work, not lock-in.
How much does home automation cost?
It depends on the size of the home and which systems you automate, so there's no single price. The most useful next step is a conversation about your project so we can scope it realistically — and we'll be transparent about what things cost.
Are there monthly subscriptions?
Core Loxone automation doesn't require a monthly subscription to keep running. Some optional online services or ongoing Miclyn support plans may have a cost — we'll make any of that clear up front.
Can Miclyn work with my builder or architect — and how early should we plan?
Yes, and the earlier the better. We can coordinate with your architect, builder, electrician and other trades so the technology is designed in from the start, with controls and low-voltage wiring planned as the home is built.
